{red}: five minute friday

I have a collection of red shoes. Growing up my dad would moan  about red shoes -- I wasn't "allowed" to have them. There were various reasons for this very nonsensical rule. In a passive move of rebellion I chose a red dress for junior prom. Naturally I would also need red shoes. Mom bought them for me. My dad was not impressed. (Today, my daughters clomp around in those old red prom shoes and love them as much as I did.)

It was the first step on a slippery slope. Mom has been buying me red shoes for 20 years. It is remarkable how many outfits can be built around red shoes. It's not so much about the outfits, though. I think it's more about becoming myself. Being the kind of person who will wear a funky pair of shoes with confidence and a smile. I just can't help it, red shoes always add a little kick to my day and joy to my spirit.

This summer, I came across a writing challenge hosted by Lisa-Jo Baker that I thought I'd give a try.For more information, check out this link to Five Minute Friday. The nitty-gritty is you write for 5 minutes on a word, then you share your post, and you comment on another. I hope you'll join too.

  1. And I drive a red car...because I can find it in the parking lot and because it adds kick to my day and a smile to my drive!

  2. I LOVE red shoes! This is a great little glimpse into the ways and items that contribute to finding our individuality. I like how unwilling your dad was to see you grow from a little girl into an independent woman. Thanks for sharing!

I {heart} comments. Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts.
