Unbeautiful Moments

Sometimes when you have a rough start in life it is hard for the world to see you as beautiful. When you've been marred by the world and have lived too long without a forever family, sometimes it's hard to see yourself as beautiful. Sometimes it's hard to be beautiful. As a mom to children who had to live too many years without me, I'm learning to see their beauty even in the most un-beautiful moments. This week we are celebrating one year as a family of six.

You're Beautiful

Even when you
yell
stomp
hit
kick
spit
pound
twist
screech
swing,
and say the most
horrible
untrue
unfair
nasty
lies...

I still think you are beautiful.

Because I know it's how you
test
trust
bond
grow
heal

and become mine...

Forever.

The Coffee for Your Heart concept is simple: Holley Gerth is asking us to pour out a little love with our words every Wednesday. There's a prompt each week. Last Wednesday was, “You're beautiful...just as you are."

Next week is:  “You’re not alone.” Write a blog post on that theme and link it up at Holley Gerth next Wednesday. Or if you don’t have a blog, you can post on Facebook, Twitter, or simply share a comment about how you let someone in your life know they’re loved this week.

  3. Thanks for sharing this, Ruth. I know your journey is not an easy one, but your love for your kids and your determination to provide a loving forever family no matter what shines through every time you share a post. And thank you for sharing Holley's thematic Wednesdays. I will try it out!

  5. You have the most understanding heart. Forever is such a beautiful word when it refers to family. Many more years of being six are ahead.

  7. Ruth- the timing of this beautiful poem is uncanny. I have been worn down in my classroom by a child with behavior problems that I know stem from incredibly difficult circumstances in his young life. Your poem reminds me to wait, continue to be present, and offers hope.
